ESSC is its own 501c3 governed by its local Board of Directors and has annual revenue over $200 million. Under long-tenured CEO Mark Whitley, ESSC is fiscally sound, investing 87% of its income on services in local communities throughout Southern California. ESSC has a strong balance sheet, complimented by a robust business and operational structure. Having experienced significant growth over the last several years, ESSC has outgrown its existing location and moving into new offices in Irvine in early 2018.

Five years ago, Whitley realized that a significant investment was needed to create a strategic, sustainable fundraising program and they hired its first Chief Development Officer, Nancy Weintraub. Over the last five years Nancy has implemented a sound and robust development infrastructure, created a high-performing team and built a culture of philanthropy. With the CEO, Nancy has recruited new and educated existing Board members resulting in 100% giving and 100% participation.   The organization is now ready to embark on a five year $40 million strategic initiative campaign.

With the growth of the development function, the campaign and other exciting new initiatives, Nancy has created this new position to assign some of her management  and operational responsibilities so she can focus on the campaign, her portfolio, the Board, large-scale corporate partnerships and building the profile of Eastereals as the disability experts within the entertainment industry. The Senior Development Director will manage a team of three and focus on grants and special events management, national corporate sponsorships, as well as carrying a major gifts/campaign portfolio.

Building upon its momentum of success, the Senior Director of Development will play a visible role in ESSC’s continued high-performing development shop, well known nationally within the Easter Seals family for its innovation and achievement.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Directs and manages the day-to-day operations of three development departments, including national corporate sponsors, foundation grants and special events. Oversees this team in ensuring all goals and objectives are met for these areas.  Also, manages a sizable portfolio of major gift donors as well as serving on a team in the launch of a $40M strategic initiative campaign

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of a few key areas within the development department, namely national corporate sponsors, grants and special events. Management includes employee supervision, goal setting, budget setting and strategic plan development for these areas. It also includes ensuring all goals and objectives for these areas are met annually. (Time 50%)
  • Manages a personal portfolio of individual, major gift, corporate and foundation donors, including identification, qualification, solicitation and stewardship. Portfolio size will range from 100 – 250 and gifts will be in the range of $25,000 and above and be in support of strategic priority areas of the organization. (Time 20%)
  • Serves as a team member to launch a 5-year, $40M strategic initiative campaign entitled Innovating for Independence Orange County (IIOC) by carrying a portfolio of donors for this initiative as well as work closely with the CDO on campaign strategies for the overall project. (Time 20%)
  • In conjunction with CDO, supports executive staff and board members in execution of fundraising activities. (Time 5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned. (Time 5%)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, preferably in Health and relevant experience Human Services, and 10 years’ of -OR- any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • Excellent leadership skills and 3-5 years’ people management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts, capital campaigns and grant writing is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and fundraising software applications (e.g. Raisers Edge). 5. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, business leaders, and executive staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and the ability to work cooperatively with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to the agency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise a high level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive situations.
  • Ability to create and implement measurable objectives.
  • Ability to travel locally throughout Southern California to meet donors where they live or work; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration
